Our lovely town of Sausalito, California, is a unique and picturesque community perched high on the hillside, near the Golden Gate Bridge, nestled between San Francisco and the Marin Headlands.
Most of Sausalito’s waterfront can be visited on foot and easily accessed from the ferry terminal. Spectacular views can be seen from the ridge tops, the many steps with their own names, and along one of the most beautiful walking waterfronts in the world.
Take time to stroll through the narrow streets, alleyways and meandering steps at your own pace and enjoy views of the San Francisco city skyline … ahh, imagine a bygone age dating back where the roads were dirt and cows grazed the hillsides.
The way to begin is to take a walking tour that will orient, excite, give you a sense of place like none other, and here you will find just the right tour.
Reminiscent of Portofino, Italy, there are a variety of art galleries, boutiques, specialty shops, fine restaurants, live music venues, museums, waterside parks, and casual outdoor eateries.
You’ll immediately notice the two identical pair of concrete elephants that flank the entrance to Vina Del Mar Park, a beautiful piazza and fountain that has become a symbol of Sausalito for decades.
Ferries drop off and pick up passengers taking them to San Francisco and nearby towns right from the center of Sausalito. (It’s easy to go online to find ferry schedules or ask at the Chamber of Commerce kiosk booth as you disembark).
Bridgeway is the main drag; a casual walking and wide driving boulevard with quaint shops, excellent restaurants with jaw-dropping views, historic islands are almost touchable and white sailboats silently drift by in the sunshine.
Welcome friend, the best is yet to come.
